Leveraging technology to enable greater efficiency and performance, resulting in better outcomes

During my undergraduate education I had the opportunity to be involved in clinical research. I was impressed  how clinical research has the ability to improve the quality of life for large numbers of patients.

Upon completing my Bachelor's degree I enrolled in a Master of Science degree program with the intent of ending my education with a Ph.D. With my M.S. in Exercise Physiology combined with certification from the American College of Sports Medicine and American Heart Association along with being the father of two small children, I took a break from education to focus on my family. I took a position with a Heart Institue, working in research and education.  Along the way I worked in Emergency Medicine as a hospital based EMT, C.N.A.  Additionally I pursued my love of computer technology and completed a college based software testing certificate program.

After gaining additional experience I was fortunate enough to work internationally in clinical research, medical education and health delivery systems within the U.S. and internationally, including an opportunity to work with Cambridge University Faculty, and the Secretary of the British Medical Association.  This experience gave me the perspective that obtaining a Medical Doctor degree would allow me the greatest employment opportunities.

My first position as a M.D. was with a large payer organization which provided me with yet another perspective on the healthcare delivery systems. Soon therafter another local payer organization recruited me to focus on provider contracting , utilization mangement, review and pay-for- performance. As my focus shifted to the business side of medicine I then decided to obtain an M.B.A. for a solid background in business concepts, and health economics and outocmes.

The next path in my professional journey was working for a biotechnology company in field based medicine and health outcomes. Living in the Silicon Valley area provided me with many opportunites to participate with physician and healthcare entrepreneurs and the world of start-up companies

Today I continue to work in the field based medicine, health economics and outcomes, while nuturing my interest in entrepreneurship, technology, and mHealth with the goal of improving healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. I am an active advisor to several health technology and medical start- up companies
